New York - Tuesday July 8 and Wednesday July 9

Still in New York...

We started Tuesday by having breakfast in our traditional place: Hot & Crusty café - bakery. We sat outside and watched people strolling, walking, and running around. People in NYC are nicely slim, not at all like typical average Americans. They walk to work, they walk when they go shopping, they go jogging etc. Country people's problem comes from big distances that make them use cars all the time. Together with popular fast food this lack of movements causes their terrible obesity, which actually gradually becomes a disease. Well, back to NYC. The first stop we made that day was at famous Victoria's Secret on W 84 St. The shop was absolutely amazing, and prizes even more. When I realized that Vicoria's underwear is cheaper than the one I had on, any trace of hesitation immediately disappeared. Richer of a nice full pink bag we took subway to Regent St and walked through Wall St along NY Stock Exchange. That quarter was crowded with elegant and smart people in suits, which felt much better in comparison to other quarters. Then we took subway to WTC station. One lady saw us looking at the map and offered her help to us, so we let her lead us to the Ground Zero area. I am not sure what my expectations had been, though the place was just fenced and full of engineers working on cranes. Nothing special to see. We were hot and tired, thus we found a bench to sit on in a City Hall Park in a shade under trees. While Tereza was having a nap I wrote several postcards on a stone chess table. afternoon went on and we moved on W 32 St to see Flatiron Bldg - a trilateral-prism-shaped building well known from movies. We kept walking northwards up to Empire State Bldg, Herald Square, then along W 43 St to Madison Square Garden, Penn Station and the National Post Office. Tuesday was a bit lazy day full of relaxing and shopping. Finally we went to sleep quite early so that we were ready for our last day in NYC.

On Wednesday we had to leave our room till 11 am. Yet we did it before 10 am and stored our baggage in a special room in the hostel's basement. Then we set off for a nice long walk through the Central Park from its very north to its very south (Columbus Circle). I don't think I should describe Central Park in details. It's a nice place with lawns, paths, ponds, playgrounds etc. You will see pictures later. On W 73 St's level we made a short "detour" to Bar & Books, which I know from Prague (they have two bars in Prague and two in NYC, nothing else nowhere else). Unfortunately, we realized that this NYC's one doesn't allow you to enter unless you are over 25 and dressed in a suit. Strange. The one in Prague is also quite high-class, but it's open for everyone. I was there in Jitka and Sophia in May.

In the late afternoon we took subway to our hostel, picked our baggage and took a bus to La Guardia Airport. While we were crossing Brooklyn and Queens it started to rain. As I already said we were really lucky with the weather all those four days. Our flight was 3,5 hours delayed like most of flights in whole US that day. I don't know what happened but most airports had such problems. Tomas was just coming from Slovakia to Columbus and his flight from Atlanta was also 4 hours delayed. Anyway, after midnight we landed in Akron, drove back to Wooster, and went to sleep enriched by experiences that can't be really described or forwarded.
